Footie Mob

The “Shawty” hat… I am close with several members of Atlanta United (Major League Soccer) supporters’ group Footie Mob. It was only natural for them to ask me for a quick design job– “Hey! Can you make us a hat with the old school jacket/hat type from the 90s?” To which I replied, “Sure! I’ll just find the font and knock it out in a few minutes.”

And that’s how I found out about the font not existing, the company aggressively pursuing anyone who made or shared the font that used to be available many years ago (which is why I’m not mentioning the company’s name), that the font creator basically disappeared from view, etc. But I had promised.

I painstakingly searched the web for images of old sports products with each letter needed, and I drew them one by one in Illustrator. My “quick” job took three days, but it came out exactly like they wanted, and they sold tons of them. Players and personalities even wore them, so it was worth it in the end. I even got a free hat.
